Türkiye has become one of the most established destinations in the world for hair restoration, with a large number of clinics, experienced teams and competitive, all-inclusive pricing. For many international patients, this combination makes treatment more accessible than at home. As with any medical decision, the right approach is to weigh the potential benefits against the risks and to choose an accredited provider.

Health Clinic is a health tourism company that coordinates your care with accredited, Ministry of Health–authorised partner hospitals in Türkiye. Your hair transplant is coordinated end to end — from your first enquiry and assessment through to treatment with our partner hospitals and structured aftercare once you return home. This guide explains the main techniques and what to expect, so you can make an informed choice.

Is a hair transplant right for you?

A hair transplant may be considered when hair loss is stable enough to plan around and there is a suitable donor area. People often considered potentially suitable include those with:

  • Male or female pattern hair loss that has stabilised
  • A receding hairline, thinning crown or specific areas of loss
  • Hair loss from scarring or previous procedures, in some cases

A transplant is not suitable for everyone. Factors such as very diffuse thinning, certain medical conditions, limited donor hair or unrealistic expectations may make it less appropriate. Only a qualified clinician can confirm suitability after assessing you, which is why we begin with a personalised review rather than a fixed promise.

What the procedure involves

While the details depend on the technique, most hair transplants follow a similar pathway:

  • Consultation & planning. Your hairline and donor area are assessed and a plan agreed.
  • Preparation. The donor area is trimmed as needed and local anaesthesia is applied.
  • Harvesting. Individual follicular units are extracted from the donor area.
  • Implantation. The grafts are placed into the recipient area, with attention to natural angle and density.
  • Aftercare briefing. You receive guidance on washing, swelling, medication and follow-up.

Most procedures are completed in a single day under local anaesthesia. Read more about DHI hair transplants to see how one specific technique works in detail.

Recovery and timeline

Recovery varies between individuals. The following is a general guide and not a guarantee of any particular outcome:

  • First week: some swelling, redness or tenderness; careful washing as instructed.
  • Weeks 2–4: transplanted hairs commonly shed — this is an expected part of the process.
  • Months 3–6: new growth typically begins.
  • Around 12 months: results continue to mature and thicken.

Following your aftercare plan carefully and attending any follow-up reviews supports healthy healing.

Benefits and risks

A responsible decision means understanding both sides. Below is a balanced summary; your clinician will discuss these in the context of your health and goals.

Potential benefits

  • Natural-looking restoration when well planned and performed
  • Long-lasting results from donor-resistant follicles
  • Typically a single-day, minimally invasive procedure
  • Can improve confidence for many patients

Possible risks & considerations

  • Swelling, redness, tenderness or temporary numbness
  • Risk of infection or, rarely, scarring
  • Variable graft survival; results are not guaranteed
  • Possible need for more than one session over time

This is not a complete list. Please read our medical disclaimer and discuss your individual risks with a clinician.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a hair transplant take? +

A session commonly lasts around 6–8 hours depending on the number of grafts and the technique used. Most procedures are completed in a single day under local anaesthesia.

Is a hair transplant painful? +

The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia, so discomfort during surgery is usually limited. Some tenderness, swelling or numbness in the days afterwards is common and typically settles with simple aftercare. Your clinician will explain what to expect.

When will I see results? +

Transplanted hair typically sheds within the first few weeks, which is normal. New growth usually begins from around three to four months, with results developing gradually over approximately 12 months. Outcomes vary between individuals and cannot be guaranteed.

Which technique is best — FUE or DHI? +

There is no single technique that suits everyone. FUE and DHI each have advantages depending on your hair type, the area being treated and your goals. A clinician will recommend an approach after assessing you. You can compare the methods on our technique pages.

Are the results permanent? +

Transplanted follicles are usually taken from areas that are genetically resistant to hair loss, so they tend to be long-lasting. However, existing non-transplanted hair may continue to thin over time, which is why a long-term plan is discussed during your consultation.
